From ATLANTIS to Iolar - new name in the localization industry.
The history of Iolar goes back to the year 1991 when Atlantis Publishing was established as a separate department of the company Atlantis.

The mutual collaboration of writers, translators, editors, proof-readers, experts etc. results today in more than 50 titles published in tens of thousands of copies. Providing quality translations of computer manuals, training and titles written in the house evolved into what is nowadays known as computer software localization. Further business development and constant presence in the market soon led to the partnership with Microsoft. This was the confirmation that the company was on the right way and at the same time the sign it was looking for. It was a mark of a new era. From a very small team of 7 people who did the complete localization of Word for Windows 6, there are now more than 20 working on the localization projects. Overall quality, project management and particularly language research and quality are the cornerstones of the operations.

Atlantis Publishing was organised into business units, the so called Publishing and localization. Each unit was working in its own area and at the same time assisting the other business unit in Atlantis Publishing or in the other business units of Atlantis. Gradually, the localization became the leading business of Atlantis Publishing, we became involved in more projects and our customer base is continuously getting bigger.

In the beginning of 1999 Atlantis Publishing broke its ties with Atlantis, emerging as an independent company - Iolar - on separate office premises, establishing its own identity and reputation. It continues to carry on the knowledge it gained in the past and implementing it in the present time. Everybody in Iolar is committed to the work they do. They believe that their work is important for the clients and valuable for the local market.

Whatever the localization processes or tasks are, they are certainly not just strings, words, testing, quality assurance, but they mean also people. Firstly, the ones who are immediately involved in this process and secondly, the people who use localised products in their everyday life. One might say, that Iolar is very proud that their employees and the independent contractors are members of both groups and that they are making every effort to remain present in both groups also in the years to come.

Iolar will continue in the strain of Atlantis Publishing. The company will remain in continuous process of development. It is constantly improving its hardware so that it will be able to address the requests of the demanding market in the most desirable way. It is also investing in new software tools and improving work practices. The multinational structure of our team enables us to set the goals beyond boundaries of Slovenia, with successful projects in the past to prove this ability. But the most important of all is the commitment to quality.
